![]() It looks as though The Bad Batch may be one of the key ways Star Wars will explore concepts of the era between the prequel movies and the original trilogy, such as how the Republic became the Galactic Empire. ![]() Those will of course be further developed through the confirmed season 2 of the show, and any subsequent seasons it may be granted after that. Saving The Bad Batch for watching after the narrative of The Clone Wars has closed is the best option for Star Wars fans, as new storylines and concepts are picked up and developed throughout the show. Thankfully, there is no such issue when it comes to The Bad Batch, which picks up shortly after The Clone Wars season 7 and continues the relevant narrative story threads set up for Clone Force 99, with cameo appearances from many of the central characters from the first show. Ironically, indicates that even Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 wasn't aired with Clone Wars' correct viewing order. It wasn't until the launch of Disney+, with the need for exclusive new content, that the House of Mouse decided to revisit Star Wars: The Clone Wars and sign off on a final, seventh season. The remaining batch of season 6 episodes that had already started production would ultimately drop as Netflix originals the year after, with a small number of further scripts being adapted to the medium of comic books or novels (or released in unfinished story-reel form) in the months after that. Upon purchasing Lucasfilm and the Star Wars brand during the show’s fifth season, The Walt Disney Company didn’t want its $4 billion darling airing on competitors’ channels (in this case, Warner Bros.’s Cartoon Network) and opted instead to create Star Wars Rebels, with a new time setting and focus, to air on its own Disney XD channel. That said, this could be a nod to her appearance in The Clone Wars’ predecessor, the 2D-animated Clone Wars, which was shepherded by Genndy Tartakovsky and was summarily dismissed from the continuity.Īnother concern is the six-year gap between the show’s original television run and season 7 on Disney+. ![]() Moreover, the entirely new character of Asajj Ventress doesn’t initially get any sort of backstory or explanation, and she, too, has already become well acquainted with the main Jedi duo. The Jedi-hunting droid General Grievous, for example, has already assumed command of the Confederate battle droid army, already started his collection of lightsaber “trophies,” and has already squared off against Anakin and Obi-Wan, apparently several times. Furthermore, several new faces get their insertion into the Star Wars timeline here but are never actually formally introduced. ![]() For starters, the opening chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set shortly after the galactic conflict began at Geonosis, but the central characters have already assumed their statuses from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan is already a Jedi Master, Anakin Skywalker is a Jedi Knight and even has a scar on his face. However, even with this “normalization process,” there are still some noticeable gaps with continuity, and they’re worth quickly addressing. With the best viewing order, Clone Wars gets (somewhat) transformed into a traditional TV series. It also maximizes character development and the flow of certain conflicts on the battlefield. This allows audiences to more easily keep track of all the myriad story arcs and Star Wars character history and backstory reveals, as well as how each new installment - some released entire seasons apart - fits into them. There's also the sequel series to The Clone Wars – The Bad Batch, which came out of a pilot arc within that first show, and continued when it first aired in 2021, to be followed up by at least one more season. ![]() There are arcs related to specific clone troopers, individual Jedi Knights, the Mandalorians, and even the resurrected Darth Maul. Lucas chose to tell stories out of sequence, to jump around the timeline with impunity, and explore multiple characters, rather than stick with one particular protagonist as they work their way through the Clone Wars. ![]()
